Crafted in-house, our enduring hand-woven carpets highlight precision and craftsmanship excellence. As artisans, not intermediaries, we provide distinctive, bespoke creations tailored to individual preferences and spatial requirements. Our primary objective is the revitalization of the Moroccan carpet-weaving tradition, coupled with an unwavering commitment to consistently elevate product standards. Aligned with sustainability principles, we actively contribute to fostering social and economic development in the regions with which we collaborate.
The current global trend of favoring natural dyes is gaining momentum, primarily due to their eco-friendly nature and the unique natural patina they impart, a quality seldom achievable with chemical dyes.
It is crucial to emphasize that all dyeing processes are conducted exclusively in our workshops. We adhere strictly to environmentally respectful practices, utilizing Alum stone for etching, and employing only decomposable plants for dyeing.
In the rug-washing process, we uphold the fundamental principle of environmental stewardship. Clear water is utilized without the use of detergents, bleach, or caustic soda. It is noteworthy that the employment of aggressive bleaching agents not only has adverse effects on the environment but also diminishes the longevity of rugs by compromising the wool's resilience.
The inherent smoothness, beauty, and harmonious natural colors negate the necessity for chemical products to manipulate colors, ensuring the preservation of the rugs' integrity and aesthetic appeal.
First and foremost, we acknowledge that we are not the sole or pioneering advocates of rehabilitating the Moroccan rug. Others have embarked on this journey before us. We view them as our sources of inspiration, although we refrain from imitation. Our sincere hope is that we will not be the last to contribute to this enduring process.
The Moroccan carpet holds a significant position due to its remarkable diversity, which reflects the distinctiveness of each region in the country where it originates. It serves as an expression of the unique natural characteristics, customs, and traditions of these regions, as well as the profound attachment of the Moroccan people to their homeland.
At Bazaar M, our tribal carpets and rugs are exclusively crafted in the mountainous territories of the Ayt Wawzguit, a confederation residing in the High Atlas range and the Siroua Mountains. Inhabitants dwell in robust stone and rammed earth structures, resembling fortresses used for storage and protection. Despite the challenging environment, the Ayt Wawzguit people are renowned for their warmth, openness, and pride in their heritage. Isolated living has preserved their traditional weaving practices, showcasing an ancient artistic vocabulary of patterns, symbols, and tattoos. The magnificence of Ayt Wawzguit carpets reflects their cultural richness, captivating both seasoned connoisseurs and those encountering them for the first time.

The Siroua breed
Within the elevated regions of the High Atlas Mountains perseveres an ancient lineage of diminutive sheep. The exquisite, silky wool derived from this breed is paramount to the distinctive quality of our carpets and rugs. Conversely, in lower terrains, agricultural practices have shifted towards altering the breed to optimize meat production.
The creation of an authentic hand-knotted rug requires the collaborative effort of many skilled artisans, but it is the unique and often overlooked skillset of the grapher which translates design concepts into the weaving graph that the weaver will follow.
Adept at both the technical aspects of weaving as well as understanding the intent of the designer, graphers act as liaison and interpreters, bridging traditional techniques and the requirements of modern aesthetics.
Shown here, grapher Abdeljalil Karroumi discussing the weaving graph with a group of weavers to ensure the intent of Bazaar M is fully realized in the finished carpet.
Rural women exhibit their creativity through active involvement in pattern composition, color selection, and weaving.
The rug serves as a canvas for personal expression, resulting in artistic creations that reflect the weaver's heart, soul, and creative inspiration.
With unwavering patience and a profound passion for the art of weaving, these women skillfully operate the loom, culminating in the creation of exquisite woven carpets.
